FACLA and PTI Marked 11th Historic Filipinotown Day, Aug 2
Los Angeles— The Filipino American community of Los Angeles (FACLA) and the Philippine Town Inc. the prime mover of the designation of Historic Filipinotown in 2002 held a celebrations of the 11th Historic Filipinotown Day in FACLA last Friday, August 2 .
The short program to commemorate the designation started with the invocation of Pastor John Tantay at around 8:00 pm
Then it was followed by welcome remarks by FACLA President Austin Baul after the singing of the two national anthems by Mr. Romy Borje who sang the Star Spangled Banner and Lupang Hinirang by Lily Tabafunda.
Community Awards
After Board Secretary Arturo P. Garcia gave a brief talk on the significance of Historic Filipinotown Day, FACLA and the PTI gave plaque of recognition to five outstanding community leaders who have greatly contributed to FACLA and the Filipino American community of Los Angeles.
One of the awardees is Romy Borje, the “Dean of the Filipino Journalists in Los Angeles” for his work as a media person in Los Angeles.
The other awardees were FACLA Directors Letty Reyes, Linda Nery, Aleli-Abrigo Neal and Bernie Targa-Ganon.
The awards were given out by FACLA President Austin Baul and Ist Vice President Fender Santos. The awardees gave their own brief acceptance speech.
Fashion Show By Ms. Philippines-USA Candidates
The night was capped by a fashion show and serenade to the six candidates for Miss.Philippines-USA who introduced themselves to the crowd. The candidates were under the tutelage of Ms. Lou Razon, the Miss Philippines USA organizer.
After the serenade to the candidates by Fender Santos, Fil Del Rosario and Romy Borje they danced with the crowd and the dance party went on again all through the night.
The music was provided by Maestro Buddy Reyes/Letty Reyes. The event was covered both by print and TV Media with the TFC ,FILAMTV and TRIBUNE-USA providing the coverage.
Ms. Nila Baul and Arturo Garcia acted as emcees of the program.
