FACLA’s PANDAYAN NG SINING AND UGNAYANG SINING TOMASINO (UST) HOLDS KALAYAAN 2014 ART EXHIBIT June 13, 14 and 16.
Los Angeles-- “ A country without culture, will have a dull-witted people”
Thirteen Filipino Artist from the University of Santo Tomas (UST) College Architecture and Fine Arts of Manila, Philippines during the 1970’s to 1980’s called the Ugnayang Sining Tomasino (UST) with the Filipino American Community of Los Angeles, Inc (FACLA) PANDAYAN NG SINING and the Philippine Consulate General of Los Angeles will hold a three day the KALAYAAN Art Exhibit (Freedom 2014) from today, June 13 , 14 and 16, 2014 at the Social Hall of FACLA, 1740 W. Temple St. Los Angeles, CA 90026.
Philtown Inc. Mayor and FACLA Director and PANDAYAN NG SINING Program Coordinator Jerry Esguerra also said, “The KALAYAAN Art Exhibit will have its grand opening and ribbon cutting on June 13, 2014 Friday at 6;00 PM at the FACLA Social Hall.
Philippine Consulate Officials will grace the affair and the Special Guest will be the noted Filipino Singer-FLORANTE. The exhibit is also sponsored by Ms.Angelita Vallejo of SUPER A’s HOME CARE ,Lake Forest, California
This 3-day exhibit is actually the third of the series of exhibit by the UST group. The arts exhibit is open to the public and everyone is invited to attend this cultural affairs as an offering of the FACLA’S Cultural Program, PANDAYAN NG SINING. “
THE UGNAYAN SINING TOMASINO (UST)
The group Ugnayang Sining Tomasino (UST) was first called “Pintang Sining Tomasino in 2013. They first formed a group in 2011, then Danny Rodriguez who came to California to see his friend April Villacorta in California and suggested they gather their artist friends and held an art show entitled “Atelier Reunion Exhibit in Santa Cruz, Manila in January 2012.
In 2013, when they met again during thre Alumni Art Exhibit at the Angelico Beato gallery in UST they initially formed the “Pintang Sining Tomasino” and elected Yannie Rumbaoa as their president, Roger Santos as Vice President and Arnelita De Los Reyes as Secretary.
Eventually after holding an art exhibit in the GSIS Museum and Intramuros, Manila, they eventually renamed the group as Ugnayang Sining Tomasino (UST) after the name of their alma mater.
The Artists at the KALAYAAN 2014 Art Exhibit
The Filipino-American artists who will hold the KALAYAAN 2014 are the following ;
1.YANNIE RUMBAOA, the first Filipino engraver of the Central Bank of the Philippines, tagged as “The Man Behind The Coin”;
2. APRIL GAMBOA VILLACORTA, a modern impressionist painter from Anaheim, California;
3. DANNY SIMBULAN RODRIGUEZ, a muralist who has commissioned artworks and an art exhibitor of Philippine Art in New York and other places in America
4,. ERNIE VELAZQUEZ, a serious conservative painter of still life and old houses from Baliuag, Bulacan;
5. PERPETUO “TOTI” SAN JUAN, a skilled painter who has done liturgical paintings in Puerto Galera, Mindoro and other religious establishments in the Philippines
6. SAMUEL LEE, an artist who totally makes great artworks on subjects that influence his life
7. RITA TERESA BATALLA LAFORTEZA, an abstract artist and an instructor in the College of Fine Arts and Design in the University of Sto. Tomas.
8. ARNIE G, DELOS REYES, an artist with modest style of doing attractive paintings and an experienced costume and fashion designer of ads and TV commercial
9. ANJIE JIMENEZ, a hard working artist in making replicas and dimensional figures;
10. SUSAN PUNO VILLANUEVA, an impressionist artist., lecturer and master of graphic design connected with Sharjah University in Dubai;
11. WILLY TADEO LAYUG, a presidential awardee of Medal of Merit in Ecclesiastical Art,took apprenticeship in sculpture in Spain and installed a retablo in Collegio Filipino in Rome.He also did the wood carving at the gate of Fort Santiago in Manila
The other two guest artists who will also exhibit are JUNJIE VERZOSA, a dedicated artist from Arizona State and GERRY NAVARRO, a modern artist with geometric and cubic forms.

The opening of the Art Exhibit will be on Friday, June 13, 2014 at 6:00PM at the FACLA Social Hall. Exhibit hours will be the following:
-June 13, 2014 from 6;00 pm to 9:00 PM
-June 14, 2014 from 9;00 AM to 9;00 PM
NO EXHIBITION ON SUNDAY, JUNE 15.
-June 16, 2014 from 9:00 PM to 9;00 PM
This Art Exhibit is a part of the 116th Independence Day Celebrations from the Filipino American Community of Los Angeles, Inc PANDAYAN NG SINING to promote Filipino-American arts and culture and a part of the FACLA’s Cultural Program for the promotions of arts and culture.
