US Immigration Crisis Debates Splits Fil-Am Leaders, Rallies Behind Aquino III on DAP Issue.

Los Angeles—Filipino-American leaders were evenly split on the American current immigration crisis wherein more than 52,000 unaccompanied minors crossed the borders to emigrate to the United States. The TALAKAYAN also ocused on the demands of some opposition leader for DBM Secretary Butch Abad to resign and the president Aquino III to take a stand on the DAP issue after the Supreme Court decision that declared “DAP as unconstitutional.”

FACLA President Jun Baul expressed misgivings that “if the US authorities will allow these unaccompanied minors to stay in the US, it will only encourage more illegal immigration in the country and will drain us of much need resources.”

Dr. Orly Cagampan on the other said, “ it had open the floodgates at the border and warrant an emergency response. Now President Obama is asking for $ 3.7 B to be allotted for this unforeseen emergency.”

On the other hand, Atty Terry Herrera explained the problem, “ the US must apply the rule of law but we must remember that justice must be tempered with mercy. To just deport all those unaccompanied children as inhumane. I foresee that America will find solution to this immigration problem.”

The DAP Issues

Again, last Thursday, July 10, the TALAKAYAN focused on the demand of some opposition leader for DBM Secretary Butch Abad to resign and the president Aquino III to take a stand on the DAP issue after the Supreme Court decision that declared “DAP as unconstitutional.”

KOR California leader Tony Berango reiterated, “ It will take away time, resources and effort if we will just focus to impeach President Aquino when even the Supreme Court explained that not everything in the DAP is wrong.”

Alliance leader Art Garcia said, “ I think President Aquino III still enjoys enough popularity even if the course of justice grinds exceedingly slow. We know see that a former president (PGMA) is in jail. Also three accused senators and their people are also in jail. Who can argue with that?”
