Los Angeles—”USAFFE Day, July 26, 1941, Filipino Soldier’s Conscription Day.”

On July 26, 1941, US President Franklin D. Roosevelt issued an executive order placing the army of the Philippine Commonwealth under the United States Armed Forces in the Far East (USAFFE) under the command of General Douglas MacArthur who was called from his retirement to active service.

Thus, the Justice for Filipino American Veterans (JFAV) and the Ms. FilAm International LCC with the Seniors 4 Pilipino Americans Community Empowerment (S4PACE) will hold a fundraiser  dinner-dance party to commemorate the  73rd USAFFE Day on July 26, 2014 from 4;00 PM to 10:00PM at the Filipino American Community of Los Angeles (FACLA).

The ticket for admission is $ 10.00 and the public is cordially invited. Music will be provided by Maestro Buddy Reyes /Letty Reyes and his band.

150th Birth Anniversary of Apolinario Mabini

The group will  also mark the 150th birth anniversary of the “Sublime Paralytic’ and the “Brains of the Philippine Revolution”, Apolinario Mabini who was born on July 22, 1864 in Tanauan, Batangas.

Apolinario Mabini ,the foremost anti-imperialist Filipino during his time, was also the first Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of the First Philippine Republic from June 1898 to 1902.

He was captured by the Americans in Cuyapo, Nuve Ecija  and was exiled in Guam. He died in Nagtahan, Manila on May 13, 1903 of cholera.

Mabini, the Anti-Imperialist

JFAV National Coordinator Arturo Garcia said,”  that it is only fitting and proper that we commemorate this event also to honor out surviving heroes, the Filipino World War II veterans and equally their heroic partners, the widows or survivors of the veterans.

By commemorating the 150th birth anniversary of Apolinario Mabini, we remember the foremost anti-imperialist intellectual during his times in this land of modern imperialism.”

We are calling all veterans and widows in Los Angeles to attend the meeting and the dinner-dance party on July 26, 2014 at FACLA
