The TIme Is Now For Filipino World War II Veterans Equity and Justice.
Los Angeles—The Justice for Filipino American Veterans (JFAV) while it is thankful for the article that appeared in the Washington Post, clarifies the term in the article that used ” final compensation” that misrepresents the content and essence of the Filipino American World War II Veterans struggle for recognition and benefits.
JFAV National Coordinator Arturo Garcia said,” Although the 25,000 expedited visas for the grandsons and daughters of the veterans as an amendment to the immigration bill passed by the Senate in 2008 but was opposed by the GOP controlled House of Representatives is important, it is wrong and a gross misrepresentation to say that it is the “final compensation” to the veterans demands.”
JFAV Supports MHC Position on Justice and Equity
Rev. Atty. Arnedo S. Valera, Co-Exec. Director, Migrant Heritage Commission based in Washington said, ” “Now is the time for Congress to pass the the 2013 approved Senate Comprehensive Immigration Bill that includes pro- vision to speed up backlog on Green Card Visas.
This bill includes a historical overdue provision that granted children of Filipino Veterans Green Cards immediately on humanitarian grounds.”
Arturo Garcia said,” we in JFAV agrees with Atty Valera, that, “ A concrete alternative is for the Dept. Of State under the recent Nov. 20 Executive Action to expedite and remove visa backlogs.
But we should not lose sight of the main demand of our heroes and beloved WW 2 Veterans: Full Equity or Compensation and Benefits equally received by those who served with valor and sacrifice so we can enjoy the freedom and democracy we are enjoying right now.”
Valera also said, “ the lump sum, one time payment of $15,000 -$9,000 to our heroes is a good start.
But justice requires equality in benefits as their WW 2 American counterparts: “Full Compensation and Family Reunification are not too much to ask for the heroic contribution they have given to our great American Nation”
