SEN. GRACE POE’S DECLARATION HAILED BY JOYOUS FILAMS
Los Angeles- – “Sama-sama sa pag-unlad at sabay-sabay na aangat, walang maiiwan.”
The Filipino American community joyously hailed the declaration of Senator Grace Poe that she is running for the highest position in the Philippines, the presidency by May 2016,.
The much awaited announcement was made by Senator Poe in a jam-packed Bahay Alumni in the University of the Philippines (UP) last night, September 16, 2015
“ Tuloy ng Laban ni FPJ”
Ret.Cmdr. Jun Caringal,, one of the lead convenor of the Grace For President Movement in the United States (GPM) said, “ we are happy with this announcement.
This means Grace has taken the crusade of his late father-Fernando Poe Jr . who should have been the rightful President of the Philippines in 2004 if he was not cheated in that election.
It was only Poe who included the OFW in her speech among the presidentiables and that meant a lot for us. That means she truly is one of us, the forgotten heroes of our nation.”
Grace Poe for Press Freedom
Meanwhile Ka,Larry Pelayo, said “ we are glad that Senator Poe stated that the “Daan Matuwid “ is not a monopoly of one person or one party. She vowed to broaden and straighten the path of “Daang Matuwid”
Senator Poe is also right in declaring that the Freedom of Information Act (FOI) must be passed. This is a cornerstone of a free and strong society.
As a member of the press, it is just to have enjoy the freedom of the press for it is a part and parcel of a prosperous society.”
Together in Progress, No One Left Behind
Arturo Garcia of the Justice For Filipino American Veterans (JFAV), “ said, “Grace Poe is right on track when she said the solutions to our social problems is genuine industrialization and growth of technology with the advances of agriculture.
She also said, one reason why she run is to continue the crusade of her father, FPJ who ran in 2004” and was cheated by PGMA.
Poe added ,” When my father ran in 2004, he was met with the same accusations that he was not a Filipino and he is good for nothing.
Ako po Si Grace Poe, Pilipino,Asawa, Ina.Inaalay ko ang aking sarili sa pinakamataas na posisyon bilang pangulo.” That;’s how Grace Poe ended her speech to the delight of the crowd at UP.

The American Immigrant and Interfaith Movement Welcomes Pope Francis
The Unity Statement
The American Immigrant and Interfaith Movement Welcomes Pope Francis
(Note; FACLA is a signatory to this statement released on September 10, 2015. Released for the media on the Pope’s Arrival to United States on September 20, 2015. )
As members of the immigration movement we are proud to welcome His Holiness, Pope Francis, to America. Like many people of faith around the world, we have been inspired by the Pope’s message of recognition and call for justice and dignity for all people, including immigrants.
Pope Francis’ visit to the United States comes at a critical time when, again, the politics of the moment are ignoring the moral and humanitarian crisis of our broken immigration system. With every day of inaction, people continue to die at the border seeking a better future; more families are separated by needless deportation; millions are forced to live in the shadows, in the margins of our society, subject to discrimination and exploitation because of their immigration status.
Unfortunately, rather than offering realistic solutions to improve our immigration system, some Presidential candidates have engaged in hateful rhetoric and scapegoating of immigrants. Instead of offering real solutions to bring 11 million undocumented immigrants out of the shadows and on an earned path to citizenship, which the majority of the American people support, these candidates are undermining the values of our nation of immigrants.
Pope Francis has urged us to confront a culture of exclusion and indifference, saying:
“A change of attitude towards migrants and refugees is needed on the part of everyone, moving away from attitudes of defensiveness and fear, indifference and marginalization – all typical of a throwaway culture – towards attitudes based on a culture of encounter, the only culture capable of building a better, more just and fraternal world.”
We hope that members of Congress open their minds and hearts to the Pope’s message. While there is room for legitimate policy debate, it should be conducted in a constructive and civil manner that allow us to move forward as a nation proud of our collective immigrant heritage, focused on the future, not on exclusionary past.
We pray that the historic encounter between Pope Francis and the Congress may lead to the beginning of an honest debate of how to fix this broken immigration system in a way that is consistent with the moral principles of all faith traditions to treat immigrants with the dignity they deserve.
We, therefore, call on the immigrant community and all people of good faith to join us in rededicating ourselves to the cause of common sense immigration reform, one that will create a 21st century immigration system worthy of who we are as a people and as a nation.
We summon the community to join us on September 24th, in a National Day of Prayer for Immigrant Families, Congress, and for our Nation; to pray that we may find our way forward to solving this urgent matter in the spirit of unity and fellowship.
We also urge our community to commit to becoming full and active participants in the civic life of our country by becoming citizens, exercising their right to vote, and becoming advocates for full civic engagement by members of their communities.
As advocates for immigrants’ rights, we welcome Pope Francis and his message of respect and dignity for all and remain committed to immigration reform because it is the right thing for immigrants, our communities, for our Nation and a more just world. Our struggle continues today, tomorrow, next year and until immigration reform becomes the law of the land.

ALLIANCE HAILS GUATEMALAN PRESIDENT RESIGNATION, JAILING
Los Angeles – The Alliance-Philippines based in the United States hailed the milestone resignation and subsequent jailing of the President of. Guatemala, Otto Perez Molina on September 03, 2015
Hours after resigning his post as the president of Guatemala, Otto Pérez Molina, a former general and the nation’s most powerful man, was sent to jail to await the conclusion of an evidentiary hearing into his role in a multimillion dollar customs fraud corruption scandal.
Arturo P.Garcia said, ” the decision to detain Mr. Pérez Molina, much like his resignation, is unprecedented in Guatemalan history and was a stunning conclusion to a day of swift change in the Central American nation.
Good Example for the Philippines
This is a good example for the Philippines where the rule of law is joke and Presidents are jailed but pardoned like in the case of President Joseph Estrada.
At present another ex-President is in “hospital arrests” but legal maneuvers are in place to set her free in jail like the former Senate President Senator Juan Ponce Enrile who was allowed by the Supreme Court to be on “temporary liberty” while on bail. “
Another ex-Philippine President Gloria MAcapagal-Arroyo is raring to be free using the same ruling that set Senator Enrile free by the order of the PH Supreme Court.
The Example of Guatemala
For the Alliance, “ Guatemalan example was a product of social ferment in Guatemala and a long a struggle of people for freedom and democracy and against the human rights abuses and rampant corruption of the ruling elite and the fascist military.:
According to the news report ,” Mr. Pérez Molina tendered his resignation overnight, and by midmorning on Thursday the country’s Congress had accepted it. He then presented himself before the courts for the evidentiary hearing, where prosecutors played more than six hours of wiretapped conversations.
At the conclusion of the hearing, which will resume early Friday, the judge ordered the former president to be held at Matamoros prison in central Guatemala City.
Guatemala is a Central American country ruled by military junta or former generals supported by the United States. It is like the Philippines where corruption is a way of life.

Stop the War vs the Lumads in Mindanao, Dismantle The AFP Vigilante and Paramiltaries Groups , Now!
Los Angeles – The Alliance Philippines condemns the fact that while the Aquino regime is waging a ruthless war against the Lumad of Mindanao using vigilante and paramilitary groups formed, trained and being used by the AFP.
We in the Alliance Philippines based in the United States condemn the brutal massacre of 5 Lumads in Pantucan, Bukidnon and the Surigao Massacre of Emerito Samarca, Executive Director of the Alternative Learning Center for Agriculture and Livelihood Development, Jionel Campos, Chair of local org MAPASU and his cousin Aurelio Sinzo by the Mahagat-Bagani paramilitary group in Surigao Del Sur.
Flagrant Human Rights Violations
Although the 1987 Constitution explicitly banned the formation of Vigilante and Paramilitary groups, The Aquino III Regime has violated it time and time again by encouraging the AFP to establish such group and used it in their war against the Lumads.
The Moros and the Lumad groups have long resisted militarization and the assault of foreign big mining firms.Continued Human Rights ViolationsThe Aquino regime is not expected to denounce the killings.Human Rights Violations.
On the contrary, ithe US-Aquino III Regime encourages these rights violations. They continue to launch unrelenting military operations in Mindanao and form Vigilante and Paramilitary Groups like the Amara,Mahagat -Bagani that terrorizes the areas where the minorities live both in the North and South of the Philippines.
The Alliance is one with the people of Mindanao and the other parts of the Philippines in demanding that military and paramilitary groups should now be pulled out of the communities.
